Dallas Day 3 - Going 'home'

Well we're in our home away from home right now, back in the hotel. Dr. Fearon came by this morning around nine and said everything looked good. Isaiah was breathing fine, took the bottle fine, evacuated his fluids fine and to top it all off was fighting to get the IV off his head and the Pulse ox sensor off his ear. His pain level seems pretty well managed and once the iv and O2 sensors were off he was a bit happier. He's just running a bit hot right now, no fever, but just sweating because of the casts and the fact its 91 here today. We're laying low in the hotel today and actually taking off for home tomorrow so we have the weekend back in ATL to recover and get into a groove sort of before I head back to work.

We're so happy that everything went well! He'll probably be really warm with all of those casts but we're sure you guys will do your best to keep him cool :)

This blog will be our way of keeping a record of our little Isaiah's growth, surgeries, and general updates over the next few months to years. We hope this will help you all feel connected, from everyone here in Atlanta to our family and friends spread across the country in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio and elsewhere. As many of you may already know, Rachel gave birth to Isaiah Jonathan Kolis at 10:07 pm on July 17, 2008. He weighed in at a whopping 8lbs 14.8 oz and 21 inches long and that was at only 36 weeks! Rachel was brought into the hospital last Monday for high blood pressure and two days later they began inducing labor due to pre-eclampsia. Nothing happened Wednesday, but we tried again on Thursday for a natural birth since her BP was normalizing and Izzy was doing fine. Why have major surgery when you can hopefully avoid it, right? So far, so so

Hanging out by the fountain in the lobby The trip out here was pretty uneventful.  Elena's not as good of traveler yet as Isaiah and Christopher were at this age, but we'll get her there! Isaiah and Dr. Chan Anyways today was the marathon of pre-operative appointments.  We got to eat our Texas shaped waffles for breakfast this morning and had to be at the hospital by 8:45.  Isaiah got to be a supermodel and get his pictures taken by Mr. Max.  I wasn't in there to see if he did the Blue Steel Zoolander look, but it is his go to.  Then we got to see the new Anthropologist Dr. Chan who took all sorts of measurements of Isaiah's face and skull.  He was pretty happy yet in there since there were Minion stickers everywhere. Recovering in the PICU

We're in the PICU with him now.  He's not waking up much and we need to make sure he does more soon.  He's got nasal trumpets, a feeding tube, suction tubes in his mouth and all sorts of other goodness going on right now in addition to the RED device  (the big purple thing on his face) I'm going to try to put all the pics behind the jump, so skip over if you're a little squeamish.
